The third Global Summit on Intellectual Property & Access to Medicines (GSIPA2M-2025) is being held in Marrakech under the theme TRIPS@30: The Access Crisis.
The Marrakech Agreement established the WTO and resulted in the TRIPS Agreement coming into effect in 1995. Since then, governments, civil society & international agencies have grappled with balancing TRIPS implementation with ensuring access to health technologies.
ITPC Executive Director Solange Baptiste opened the summit reminding participants,
“Thirty years ago, right here in Marrakech, a deal was struck that promised innovation but delivered inequality. Making it so powerful — and deeply symbolic — to gather again… in the birthplace of TRIPS, not to commemorate it, but to confront it, and to chart a new, bolder path forward.”
