The 18th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation to climate change (CBA18) took place from 6-9 May 2024 in Arusha, Tanzania, gathering over 300 practitioners, grassroots representatives, local and national policymakers, and donors from 50+ countries. Together, they explored how community-based and locally led adaptation can shape a climate-resilient future. 

Solange Baptiste Simon, Executive Director, ITPC Global, attended her first community-based adaptation conference founded by the esteemed and late Saleemul Huq, with colleagues from The Global Fund and other community and technical support partners to discuss locally-led interventions in climate and share insights on community-led innovations in health.

“At #CBA18, the convergence of LLA (locally-led adaptation) principles and CLM (community-led monitoring) is striking. The gap between climate and health from a community perspective is rapidly narrowing, signalling promising collaborations ahead! Learning firsthand about LLA strategies and witnessing the synergy between climate and health sectors was invaluable. Bubbling with vibrant discussions, diverse opinions were shared by indigenous communities, donors, implementers, and intermediary bodies. It’s clear that empowering communities is key to building resilience and driving impactful change for a sustainable future.”
