ITPC started implementing a high-impact, local, community-led monitoring initiative in South Africa and Malawi under its ‘Watch What Matters’ strategic focus area. The Citizen Science Life Maps Officer is tasked with administering and coordinating the implementation of Life Maps in South Africa and Malawi.

Khokhelwa is based in South Africa and has been tasked with facilitating 20 cohorts from the West Rand area of South Africa in implementing the Life Maps program. She interacts and collects data of the day-to-day life of these set cohorts, they mainly comprise of PLHIV as well as key populations. They document their experience with various challenges but mostly looking into accessibility of health care services.

Khokhelwa has an undergraduate degree in Community Development and Leadership and a post graduate degree in Social Policy. Her areas of passion are community building, empowerment, and its sustainability more so in displaced or rural communities. She specifically focused on HIV/Aids, Gender Based Violence, human rights and accessing basic services.

Khokhelwa believes that her exposure to both rural and urban living brought about her love for community and ubuntu. Her life’s work has helped her develop a more informed passion for human rights.
